In San Antonio de los Baños, all forms of production apply agro-ecological practices with the objective of using the soil at its maximun. The producers of the Ariguanabense productive forms apply agroecological practices in the management of the soils to produce food for the population from agroecological practices. Heidy Fernández Salazarte, agroecology, science and technical official in the territory states that they conduct methodological workshops with the participation of specialists to promote ecological practices.
Heidy points out that the correct rotation of the crops take into account the phases of the moon, it is also very important the integration of animals, crops and peasant family in cycles; the application of manuress: cattle, gallinaza, pig among others and the regular supply of organic matter or compost in order to provide nutrients to the plants. This fertilizer can be obtained from organic waste such as crop residues, eggshells, leaves, roots, well-decomposed manure.
She also highlights some actions and healthy techniques promoted: agroecological pests management by cultural attention to crops, agricultural soils protection, animal traction, living barriers, reforestation, gravity irrigation, minimum tillage; the use of multi-plow, green manures, bioproducts and biofertilizers and the progressive elimination of chemical products.
