Curiosities of Artemisa

500x128-images-banner copia.png Artemisa is a new Cuban province, approved on January 1, 2011, when the former province of La Habana was divided into the provinces of Artemisa and Mayabeque. The highest elevation, from Cabo de San Antonio to the Guamuaya mountains, is the Pan de Guajaibón (700 m), located in Bahía Honda; there is the bust of Maceo (the highest bust placed in Cuba).

The province has 6 cities, (with more than 20,000 inhabitants), Artemisa, San Antonio, San Cristóbal, Güira de Melena, Guanajay and Bauta). It is one of the provinces with the largest number of cities in Cuba, along with Villa Clara and Holguín. The province has three large stock bays: Bahia Honda, Cabañas and Mariel.

The narrowest part of Cuba is located between Mariel, to the north; and Majana to the south (31 km without counting the extremities. The most important biosphere reserve in Cuba is the Sierra del Rosario. The Hondo de San Cristóbal is the main river, (it's born in the Sierra del Rosario and flows into the south coast ).
