Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz developed education for everyone: that is his legacy. The Literacy Campaign was Fidel's idea, leading to radical transformations for the benefit of education. On December 22, 1961, Cuba was declared a Territory Free of Illiteracy; As of this year, childcare centers were founded and thousands of schools were built in the country - mainly in the countryside.
Many of these schools were created in the territory or near San Antonio de los Baños, thereby fulfilling the Moncada Program. According to Luisa María Alfonso Bermúdez, methodologist at the Municipal Directorate of Education in San Antonio de los Baños, this sector promotes numerous initiatives to create an educational system that guarantees access to quality education, because after the triumph of the Revolution in Cuba all Children, adolescents and young people transit through the National Education System.
The methodologist stressed that at different times of the Revolution and according to the conditions existing in Cuba, measures have been taken for teacher training, for example the Pedagogical Detachment, the training of Volunteer Teachers, Emerging Teachers and Integral General Teachers, where The youth of Ariguanabo has been present.
She referred to another achievement of the Revolution and Fidel: Special Teaching, which guarantees the integral development of children with special educational needs, because it not only facilitates access to education; Special Education in San Antonio de los Baños works with the objective of achieving an inclusive education for students with disabilities.
In Ariguanabo the institutional component of the Third Improvement of the Cuban Education System is applied in order to create a climate of democracy and participation, a teaching-learning process characterized by the participation of students as subjects of their own learning and training, the functioning of the group of students and student organizations, the permanent connection of the institutions with the community.
The application of this institutional component has been implemented since last 2018-2019 academic year. In the next 2019-2020 school period it will be extended to all schools in Ariguanabo, the Education official concluded.
Fidel bequeathed his vocation for knowledge, his service to the humblest people and the development of Cuban education. Thus the Ariguanabo is the continuity of his legacy, and of the conviction that, only education can save the world.
