José Martí's diseases: a text for this summer

480x778-images-presentacion-libro-efermedades-jose-marti-santiago-cuba-02 The work capacity of José Julián Martí Pérez is reflected in his writings. Much has been written about his translations, poems, chronicles, essays, criticisms and speeches. However, the diseases suffered by the Maestro have been little addressed by Cuban Historiography.

Ricardo Hodelín Tablada, Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science, from Santiago de Cuba, addresses this aspect of the life of the Cuba's National Hero in his book ''Enfermedades de José Martí'' (José Martí's diseases). It is an analytical work, scientifically backed by a detailed study of the Apostle's writings.

In the Marti Epistolary, the reader discovers the physical limitations that complicated the realization of what he intended. The aftermath of the Presidio and the quarries of San Lázaro marked his life forever. From then on, different types of ailments did not detract from him to perform the great work he bequeathed. The author appeals, as obligatory points of reference, to the testimonies of the contemporaries of the Maestro and to the biographical aspects that, to some extent, provide elements for the understanding of the object of study.

As the reading of the book ''Enfermedades de José Martí'' progresses, one can understand how the Apostle's health at age 42 was systematically affected. It would not be correct to write his true history without referring to those sufferings, in which he gave all the integrity of his moral strength, in order to continue his dream: to fight for a free homeland. We recommend you approach the text, a book to live the Summer 2019.
