Since its inception, emoticons or emojis have revolutionized communication in chats, emails, publications on social networks, including objects such as clothes, toys and other utensils. According to international press media, the initiative to create new designs arises from the annual celebrations for World Emoji Day, celebrated every July 17.
The main use of emojis is to express feelings or activities, so companies like Apple and Android constantly develop them to expand their applications. This time I want to tell you about the new emojis, available in the coming months, thanks to their acceptance by the Unicode Consortium, in charge of approving them. Apple has said that although the new emojis do not represent all possible forms of disability, they are a starting point for better representation and diversity.
Although the daily uses of these “funny figurines” are still interesting, their expansion motivates their use much more. So much so that, since July 2013, the “smiley and tearful emoji” has been shared more than 2.291 million times on Twitter; which makes it the most tweeted, according to the report published by Hootsuite. The next most used are "the red heart" (1,097 million) and the "recycling symbol" (936 million).
But curiosities are not over yet. Each platform shows the calendar icon with a different day. In the case of Twitter, it appears on March 21, since the company was created on March 21, 2006. On WhatsApp you will see February 24, the date on which the messaging network was launched in 2009.
These symbols are also in the audiovisual media. "The Emoji Movie" was released on July 28, 2017, the first film based on these icons. This is an interesting proposal to understand more about them. Remember, when it is difficult to express a feeling or activity, they are there so as to make your conversations a colorful, diverse and risk-free space.
