What am I going to study? This may be the question most students ask after completing the ninth or twelfth grade. This is a decision that not only guarantees the continuity of student studies, but also will serve as a foundation to sustain the work force in the future society. That is why, in this process should be involved third parties, such as their parents and teachers, the guides when deciding, from the potential of each young person, the direction to follow.

Vocational training is a system of actions that begins in childcare centers with the aim of guiding the whole family while children learn by playing. There are also circles of interest in the Palace of Pioneers responsible for developing skills in students, through activities of the institution or company they represent. But in this purpose, the teachers in the classrooms have the main mission, because they are in charge of diagnosing and strengthening the capacity of each student. This was stated by Mileidy Pérez López, methodologist-inspector of the Municipal Directorate of Education in San Antonio de los Baños.

At the end of the ninth grade, one hundred percent of the students can not opt for the pre-university; some must choose technical or trades careers. But when they reach the twelfth grade many students are afraid to enter the entrance exams, they do not prepare themselves and as the years go by they complain about having hardly any chance to enter the working life, explained Pérez López.

Resolution 129/2018 on the continuity of studies came into force this school year. From now on, the 12th grade graduates, before submitting to the entrance exams, can fill their ballots by selecting university-level and other short-cycle courses. Years ago this process was done in the months of September or October. The opinion also raises the possibility of studying careers, without having to submit to entrance tests depending on the needs of the territory.

The measures, available to Cuban students, respond to the improvement of education in Cuba and the flexibility in terms of the continuity of studies. With its implementation, deciding what to study will not be a difficult task. It is enough to be prepared and take on greater challenges for the good of man and society.
