Another World Environment Day is approaching, -June 5-. The protection of the environment is a social and ethical challenge. We are living the consequences of climate change, in a society that has also been marked by environmental pollution, in a town where still insufficient actions have been taken to rescue the natural heritage of the Ariguanabo River and its Galerias Forest.
Global ecological degradation has worsened in recent years, due to the indiscriminate use of natural resources, which affect the environment and therefore society and the human being, including their health. For humanity, it is an accelerated challenge to mitigate the damage caused to nature and preserve what it offers us. This implies an ethical behavior, based on humanistic and ecological moral values integrated in environmental education.
The Ariguanabo Foundation was established in the territory for ecological purposes: The protection of the environment, through the promotion of culture and actions to sanitize the municipality. In addition, the International Film and Television School has among its projects: to promote ecology, be sustainable and reduce environmental pollution; in general: to become a Green School. In favor of the environment, agroecology is used in several farms of local producers, as they guarantee healthier foods, provide the necessary nutrients to the soil -free of chemicals- and make rational use of water. We also have the Bosque Martiano (Marti Forest), where love for nature is encouraged among the new generations.
It is necessary to understand that the environmental problem belongs to all of us, since the paper or the can is thrown to the ground, since the streets are flooded with the smoke of cars, since we generate waste -both the industries or commercial entities- and are sent directly to the waters of the river ... This damages the image of the town, but also the health of its inhabitants. The environment is the space in which life develops, but where it also ends. Without it, there is no future. Everything that happens to the Earth will happen to Earth's children.
