The teachers from the special school 17 de Abril, in San Antonio de los Baños, strive to educate with love and patience. This institution is aimed at correcting and compensating the cognitive processes of students with mild mental retardation and autism.
They comply with a methodological work system in order to carry out the strategies, with emphasis on the attention to children with special educational needs. The director of this school Maribel González said that the program is aimed at strengthening teachers' work, so as to guarantee the corrective work in subjects such as Spanish Language, Mathematics and History, according to the characteristics of each specialty.
The center has 142 students, who are prepared for an adult and independent life through job training. Planning, regulating and demanding the insertion of students with special educational needs is a priority of the center, which develops various programs in order to ensure the future of its students.
