The own voice of Ariguanabo (II)

In 1971, San Antonio de los Baños took the first steps to found a radio station to publicize the life of the Villa del Humor. Thus, Ariguanabo Radio emerged, with a program for youth, children, women, peasants and workers. Its programming combines music with interviews and cultural and sports themes.

Since 1974, efforts have been made to formalize Radio Ariguanabo. The Cuban Institute of Radio and Television recognized the station and approved its professional staff. The first equipment began to arrive and a new plant was installed, with a frequency of 1200 kilohertz. From its new location and in connection with Radio Cadena Habana, the broadcasts were resumed in November 1975. At the same time, the training of qualified personnel, especially female, began in the areas of Locution and Audio. For these reasons the programming was transmitted from twelve noon until six in the afternoon. His fundamental work was the disclosure of everything that happened in the municipalities of San Antonio, Quivicán, Güira, Alquízar, Caimito and Bauta. For this, he had several volunteer correspondents, who sent the information to the Editorial Department, where they were processed by two journalists.

In September 1978, thanks to the support provided by the organs of the People's Power in San Antonio de los Baños, the building that now houses the radio station, with its technical equipment and material, was inaugurated. The dream of those Ariguanabenses became reality, who, full of enthusiasm, made it possible for Radio Ariguanabo to go on the air.
