Epizootiological surveillance

The National Parasitology Laboratory, located in San Antonio de los Baños, develops a system of epizootiological surveillance aimed at facilitating the prevention, early warning, control and eradication of different animal diseases.

In the center, tests are carried out using laboratory techniques and veterinary models. In addition, anthelminthic products are evaluated for the national registry of medicines and pesticides. The specialists elaborate norms, procedures and other regulations for the diagnosis of the resistance to the antiparasitic products, they apply tools to avoid the irrational use of chemical substances and they introduce new techniques in order to counteract the adverse effects of the medicines in animals. The institution supplies the GAVAC vaccine against the tick of cattle, and provides the use of fungi, as biological entities, to affect the evolutionary cycle of the parasite.

The National Laboratory of Parasitology also cooperates with the training of specialists, who contribute with the Cuban Revolution in the field of veterinary science. The institution, attached to the Institute of Veterinary Medicine, collaborates with the National Center for Agricultural Health and several livestock companies in the country.
