Carilda Oliver Labra is a teacher in the dialogue with the passion, the good tone and the fine irony that reveal her verses. She is the owner of the word, maker of images impregnated with a singular elegance, she means authenticity and love for the homeland. She lived intensely and was awarded many years. She left us the dimension of a Cuban woman who broke the patterns, reaching our days as one of the most genuine voices of the nation. She revealed an exquisite sensibility.
Carilda preferred the manuscripts, perhaps because for her, the act of creation is an expression of that feeling so typical of a woman that she feels like a mother when she writes because she gives life. I define her as a brave and gentle woman, who speaks slowly, as if caressing, and why not, falling in love and provoking, when writing poetry. And so she says: '' I could say that I am in spring / under an air that smells of definite light ... / and be of flower, of rain, of good butterfly, / similar to this sky, taken care of by the breeze. .. ''
Carilda has been awarded recognitions in Hispano-America and Cuba. The Excelencias Prize, for her extraordinary poetic work, reveals the commitment of the author in defense of women through letters. Her fruitful work is a benchmark in defense of women's rights, and place her as a precursor within universal literature.
With great honor, she is known as "Bride of Matanzas". Her production is extensive, the second of his more than 40 poems, «Al sur de mi garganta»(1949) placed it definitely in the Cuban and international literary map, for which he was awarded the National Poetry Prize. Her poems are included in the anthologies ‘’Cincuenta años de poesía cubana’’, compiled by Cintio Vitier and Laurel Editorial, respectively. Among dozens of recognitions, Carilda received the Distinction for National Culture and the National Literature Prize.
The outstanding Cuban poet, passed away this August 29, at the age of 96.
