Ariguanbo's Grandparents Home was the first institution created in Cuba, on August 14, 1971, with the objective of guaranteeing daytime integral care to the elders who maintain basic functional abilities to perform daily activities, but are alone at home due to family abandonment or because the family members work and can not take care of them during the day.
Physical, recreational, social and cultural activities are organized by the Directorate of Sports and the Ministry of Culture, with the aim of raising the quality of life of the elders. Orlando Pérez García, ''Risita'', teaches Tai chi so that circulation and movements improve. Every day they receive medical care in Geriatrics and Podiatry, participate in board games and receive knowledge related to health, food and other interesting subjects, through the Senior Adult Cathedra.
They find their second home at this institution, where the workers with their love and dedication make possible a happy and pleasant stay. Here, Marti's thought is reaffirmed "There is nothing more beautiful than loving the elderly; respect is a sweet pleasure ... The elders are the patriarchs. "
