The Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC) Antonio Briones Montoto belonging to the Lazaro Peña Tobacco Enterprise, located in San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, is getting ready for the next Tobacco Campaign 2018-2019.
Among the actions undertaken is the planting of Canavalia green manure in 17.44 hectares as part of the improvement and conservation of soils, since it contributes to the efficiency of the land's productivity. The green manure provides nutrients, controls weeds and reduces the tobacco host pathogens.
The UBPC owns more than 70 tons, of the 78 designed in the substrate plan, a land prepared and fertilized for the irrigation of seeds. Consuelo Sotomayor, economist of the entity, explained that the farmers have planted more than 30 hectares of other crops by applying the rotation of crops for a period of three years.
