Consumer Protection Policy...

Resolution No. 54 of the Ministry of Domestic Commerce establishes the consumer protection policy. This new regulation will respond to the rights and duties of consumers and determine the general obligations of suppliers of products and services, both to state and private units. Regarding this issue, Mayelín Lima Bencomo, Consumer Protection and Registration Technichian at the Municipal Administration Council, comments.

The consumer protection policy is strengthened through Resolution 54, published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cuba. This Resolution aims to approve the indications for the organization and execution of the consumer protection policy.

Consumer protection policy is a set of principles, provisions and actions aimed at guiding, assisting, protecting, informing and educating consumers on how to exercise their duties and rights.

Within the rights of consumers we find: Receive products and services with the established quality and safety requirements; receive protection against false commercial advertising; protect their economic interests, allowing them to acquire products and services with adequate quality, quantity and prices; receive the sales receipt ticket; check the weight of the product; obtain accurate information that enables them to choose, according to their needs and preferences; have access to information on the requirements to be met in establishments in order to better enjoy the services; participate in the decision processes; be able to access sustainable modes of consumption; have ways and mechanisms to process in case of dissatisfaction; receive protection in terms of privacy and security of consumer data.

Regarding the duties of consumers are: to know about the characteristics of products and services before buying them, exercise the right to defend against any dissatisfaction, declare your concern respectfully, respect the rules and requirements established by the supplier in the exchange of goods and services, comply with the rules for the protection of social property and the environment.

In case of dissatisfaction, the first step is through the Consumer Protection Committee, at the unit where consumer rights were violated. If you do not agree with the response received, you can contact the office located in the Council of Municipal Administration, within the General Directorate of the Economy. We are subordinated to the Provincial Administration Council, there we have a specialist who is in charge of this activity.
