The writer, geographer, historian and Cuban politician Antonio Núñez Jiménez in his book ''On the march with Fidel'', wrote: '' Directing a revolution and building a new society is like advancing in darkness, between doubts. The exceptional aspect of Fidel, as leader of the Cuban Revolution, has been his great self-critical spirit. He can not be measured only as governor, nor as a statesman. He is the teacher of a people, because he knew how to be his most extraordinary disciple''. These very accurate words characterized our leader.
Fidel's legacy is in the Cuban Revolution's work. Inspired by the example of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, José Martí, Julio Antonio Mella and Antonio Guiteras, he forged a revolutionary process. A distinctive feature of his personality was his determination, which allowed him to pronounce his plea of self-defense in the trial for the events of the Moncada, then go into exile and organize the arrival of the yacht Granma, thus beginning a new period of struggle for the final triumph.
Fidel was always a fighter, one of those who do not accept defeats. In the victory of Playa Girón and in the special period, he showed that the organization of the forces is fundamental to avoid any situation. Another fundamental dimension of his greatness was his communication with the people, who always supported him, and today, it turns his legacy into a flag to give continuity to his work.
A vital aspect was his work as an educator, so that Cuba would become the most cultured country in the world, especially in the teaching of history. Regarding its internationalist principles, we can say that combatants, doctors, teachers, technicians, art instructors, physical education teachers and other professionals have offered their support to other nations, under his guidance.
Maintaining Fidel's legacy is essential. He was a futuristic man. His knowledge and vast experience allowed him to anticipate his time. The Cubans who were born after the revolutionary triumph, the youngest ones, and those who will be born, will find in Fidel's work a source of information and knowledge; an unbridled flow of what a man can do for his country and the world.
