In San Antonio de los Baños, health promoters undertake actions in educational centers with the aim of preventing sexually transmitted diseases.
According to Ileana Pérez Ordaz, health promoter, the Sexuality Education Program with a Gender and Sexual Rights Approach in the National Education System is applied in schools. This program is endorsed by Ministerial Resolution 139 of 2011 of the Ministry of Education. Pérez Ordaz pointed out that this program has as a general objective to promote the development of a healthy, full and responsible sexual behavior in children and adolescents and young people from the formation and development of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that favor behavior and human relations, based on the exercise of sexual rights and gender equality.
Regarding the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, this is one of the essential contents of the program. Among the educational actions are seminars, where students investigate these diseases and then, the debate is promoted through banners, videos and other media, especially in the subjects of Natural Sciences and Biology.
The promoter also noted that educational talks are coordinated with community doctors, with the aim of acquiring knowledge about different aspects related to sexuality, gender and sexual rights.
