Ariguanabese women against the Aedes Aegypti

The members of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in San Antonio de los Baños support the fight against the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, transmitter of Dengue, Zika and Yellow Fever.

Belkis Rodríguez Hernández, secretary of the FMC in this town, ensures that during the period of highest infestation rate, talks are held in the community, so that the family takes into account the actions to be carried out at home with the objective that the Mosquito does not proliferate.

Among these actions are: perform the autofocal, eliminating any deposit where the vector could deposit its larvae; Also, keep the courtyards clean. This battle is not only of the FMC members but of the entire family, where members must be involved to preserve health, Belkis added.

The leader said that this work should be maintained now that the summer rains begin, because from the following months, the risk of infestation increases, due to the environmental humidity caused by rainfall, a breeding ground for this vector.

Agroecology for better results

Agroecological practices are gradually applied in San Antonio de los Baños for the benefit of food production. The producers, members of the Agroecological Movement, intersperse the crops and use biological products such as earthworm humus and organic matter.

More than a hundred promoters participate in this movement, who are responsible for spreading the importance of applying good practices in crops. The facilitators are in charge of the training of the producers, as well as of the biological means.

The Credit and Services Cooperatives Vicente Pérez Noa, Niceto Pérez, Jesús Menéndez and Reynaldo Pérez stand out in this movement.

These practices are ancestral, although for a long time they were used rudimentarily. By the 70s of the last century, several experts conceptualized the experiences in Agroecology, defined as a synthesis science for the construction of food sovereignty.
