Every year, the world is shaken by the passage of natural phenomena and events, whose effects disrupt the daily life of human beings. Hurricanes, tornadoes, thunderstorms, floods, volcanic eruptions and forest fires, among others, occur frequently and are common in all geographic regions.
In the face of such events, prevention aims to reduce the vulnerability of society to disasters and correct the causes due to human activity, being the rapid alert especially important for short-term prevention, according to the protocol specified on the website of The United Nations. To be prepared, organizations, communities and families must take action to act quickly, if an emergency occurs. It is essential to know who and what would be affected by different situations; this will allow us to strengthen ourselves and act in the face of adversity.
Once again, I remember the words of Fidel Castro during the Rio de Janeiro Summit on October 12, 1990 "...An important biological species is at risk of disappearing due to the rapid and progressive liquidation of its natural living conditions: man" . Alert that summoned the whole world, and from which emerged the ''Tarea Vida'' (A plan of the State for the confrontation to climate change), an initiative that includes five strategic actions and 11 tasks, aimed at identifying prioritized areas and places, possible damages and actions to be undertaken in a short, medium and long term.
Another example of how much is done on this small island is the Meteoro exercise. It allows to increase and check the preparation, planning and organization of Civil Defense tasks, as they contribute to face dangers and minimize human and economic damages. It is worth recognizing our people, who demonstrate: preparation, humanism and support.
