The advances of science have promoted the development of the current society with the passing of the years. The scientific centers and their researchers are in charge of developing various studies. In San Antonio de los Baños there are different centers that contribute to the scientific development of the country, among them, the Tobacco Research Institute, the National Center for Parasitology at the Institute of Veterinary Medicine and the Experimental Station of Medicinal Plants.
The first center develops scientific and technological research, and specialized production and services, throughout the tobacco chain. His work lies in the interests of producers to maintain quality. Different groups guarantee this purpose to obtain new varieties of plants and seeds, the study of the pathogenic agents that affect the crop, as well as the phytosanitary strategy and the plant breeding of the soil for sowing.
The National Center for Parasitology of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine has the mission of controlling parasitic diseases and antiparasitic resistance through integrated control. One of its objectives is to counteract the devastating effects of parasites for the achievement of more beneficial animal productions.
The Experimental Station of Medicinal Plants Dr. Juan Tomás Roig, works to provide the population with natural products and contribute to the scientific work of the country. They also focus their work on the cultivation of the plants that later integrate into research programs in favor of obtaining various products, among them, the derivatives of Aloe Vera.
These scientific centers, all exclusive of the ariguanabense territory, materialize the ideas of the historical leader Fidel Castro, when he said: "... I hope that in the coming years the speleological society will grow and our scientific institutions will also grow ..." It only remains for the new generations of men and women of science to join these centers. Thus they will carry forward, with new projects and initiatives of inquiry, the purpose of each one.
