One of the priorities of the livestock farmers in San Antonio de los Baños is to guarantee animal feed. Despite the effects of climate change, drought and the influence of the economic blockade, which prevents the importation of fodder and fertilizers, different strategies are developed to feed the livestock.
Ariel Méndez Sidrés is one of the producers associated with the Camilo Cienfuegos Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS), in Ariguanabo. This young man is also one of the most outstanding producers regarding the production and distribution of milk in the municipality.
With more than 70 cattle, Méndez Sidrés undertakes different alternatives, which enable the cattle to receive nutrients for their development, including the planting of forage (kingrass) and protein plants, the demarcation of the production units allowing a better use of the grazing, as well as the use of plantain strains, production remains and balanced fodder.
