The development of strategies to minimize the main ecological problems in San Antonio de los Baños is one of the fundamental tasks carried out by the Science, Technology and Environment Section (CITMA), in the Municipal Administration Council.
According to Pedro González Conde, CITMA specialist, different actions are currently being carried out in the municipality related to the centers with deficiencies in the waste treatment system. González Conde said that there are 19 polluting sites in the town. In the urban center, 4 of them dump waste, threatening the safety of the river waters. These are precisely the three popular councils located near the Iván Portuondo General Teaching Hospital, the Raúl Hernández Vidal Community and Las Yagrumas Hotel.
The work developed by CITMA specialists in the municipality is aimed at verifying compliance with measures to eradicate pollution during this first stage. From now on, it is necessary to contribute to the reduction of the polluting load, as well as to raise environmental education and improve the conditions of the Ariguanabo River, which, despite the years and its history, chooses to stay there.
