Proud of our health system

Primary healthcare is based on practical methods and technologies; scientifically founded and socially acceptable, available to all individuals and families in the community. It is part, both of the national health system, of which it constitutes the central function and the main nucleus, and of the economic and global development of the community.

World Health Day was recently celebrated, and Cuba is, undoubtedly, one of the most prestigious nations in the world. The results of the health sector are felt in the well-being of the population. This is an important element for specialists and staff working in medical institutions.

Among the fundamental elements of primary healthcare are: education on the main health problems, prevention methods, nutrition, immunization against the main infectious diseases, medicines supply and maternal and child care, which also includes family planning. These aspects are aimed at the prevention and development of the individual. Many factors are taken into account, depending on social needs and decision-making at specific times and areas; for example, the family doctor's program, named "guardians of health", due to their consecration and constant work.

In our country, health workers contribute to give Cubans one of the highest life expectancy of the world's developing nations. I am proud of our health system and of the services available to everyone. I recognize that there are still ups and downs, like anywhere, but this will not diminish the strength of our medicine and its achievements.
