Nostalgia for the Book Fair

The Provincial Book Fair was taking place in Artemisa, and San Antonio de los Baños was nostalgic for it. People of the town, artists, creators, teachers, professionals and in general lovers of reading and literary novelties expressed their pain because the Book Fair did not take place here; as well as the hope of recovering it someday.

I do not doubt the need to rationalize and concentrate the few material, organizational and financial resources in the provincial fairs; but I do not doubt either, of the negative consequences for the cultural life of the town, especially in places like the Ariguanabo. For more than 25 years, book fairs were held here. San Antonio has an ancient literary tradition (gatherings, athenaeums, libraries, periodicals, publishing houses, etc.) and above all, an impressive public. Not anywhere there are such favorable conditions for the continued success of the book fairs. We know that after the Provincial Book Fair, fairs are organized in the municipalities. In some places it is a good option, for San Antonio it does not seem to be.

Here, we yearn to enjoy novelties, presentations, conferences and panels with prominent personalities of letters, and integrate the book with all the artistic potential of music, theater, plastic arts and humor that the Ariguanabo has. Here The Book Fair is considered inclusive for culture and massive for society. It is necessary to think about this one more time and to know what Book Fair corresponds or not to San Antonio de los Baños.
