All persons, regardless of sex, race, religion or disability, have the right to a full life. Worldwide, disabled women represent 10 percent. Approximately 300 million women suffer from some type of disability. In many countries they are discriminated against.
In Cuba they have the right to inclusion and equality. Women play a leading role in society. They stand out for their role as mothers, wives, housewives, nurses, labor leaders. No one has the right to restrict, exclude and discard disabled women; they also assume these social roles, in correspondence with their possibilities. Although many medical diagnoses incapacitate them, many of them are totally intelligent and functional. One of the achievements of the Cuban Revolution is labor insertion. For example, in the workshop Primero de Enero in San Antonio de los Baños, women work according to their possibilities. This guarantees their active participation in the economic and social development of the locality. Another demonstration of integration is their active participation in national and international sports competitions. In the places where a woman with disabilities lives, there are mechanisms for their integration into sports, culture and society in general.
Although it is true that disabilities limit social performance, women with limitations have been able to take their place and offer their contribution. They deserve the respect and admiration of everyone.
