Races?, one: the human race

José Martí expressed in 1891: "There is no hatred of races, because there are no races." According to the Spanish Royal Academy (RAE) the word race refers to each of the groups in which the same species is divided, human, animal or vegetable, with certain physical characteristics transmitted by inheritance. But; Is the meaning of this word known? Why skin color is a way to differentiate a species: the human race?

A common phenomenon in many countries of the world is racial and ethnic discrimination, which impede the progress of millions of people. On March 21, 1960, there was a massacre in Sharpeville, South Africa. A group of people participated in a peaceful demonstration against apartheid, when the police opened fire on them and caused a total of 69 deaths. These events were repudiated worldwide. For this reason, since 1966, this date was proclaimed as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The fight against racism is a priority issue for the international community and for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

In Cuba reality is different, as José Martí said: "Man is more than white, more than mulatto, more than black. Cuban is more than white, more than mulatto, more than black." We all have the same human rights without discrimination. Our population is distinctly mixed and the color of the skin is not a reason to differentiate or frame the lives of people. I believe that it is necessary to condemn all manifestations of racism and discrimination.
