On March 17, 1979, the International Humor Museum in San Antonio de los Baños opened its doors. This museum was the first of its kind in the American continent, under the leadership of the ariguanabense Miguel Miqueli.
The Museum was inaugurated in the context of the First International Biennial of Graphic Humor, with an exhibition of Cuban humor, reflecting more than 100 years of the creation of this genre. The place chosen to establish this museum was a neocolonial style house, built from 1827 to 1830 by Miguel de Cárdenas, Marqués de Campo Florido.
The Museum, unique of its kind in Cuba, preserves its structure of stonework and hard wood, with Spanish tile roofs, marble floors, large barred windows and an interior patio, carefully decorated; a true patrimonial work. With its 39 years of existence, the place treasures a large part of the graphic memory of Cuba, classified in Cologne, Republic and Revolution, as well as more than 10,000 works, created by artists from more than 40 countries.
The Museum is the headquarter of the International Biennial of Graphic Humor, and Local Monument since 1980, in recognition of its historical and architectural values.
