Antero Leonardo González Cuesta loved the Revolution and his Ariguanabo

As a tribute, and faithful to the traditions of a people proud of its history; on March 16, combatants of the Cuban Revolution, members of the Base Association 01-02, of the Urban Center People's Council, in San Antonio de los Baños, will remember the patriot Antero Leonardo González Cuesta on the 30th anniversary of his physical disappearance. His name designates the aforementioned social structure. Among the activities, there will be a conversation with pioneers from the Fragua de Comunistas school on the revolutionary work of González Cuesta.

Antero Leonardo González Cuesta was born on January 3, 1925, in the bosom of a humble family in San Antonio de los Baños. At age seven, he enrolled in a local public school until he reached the sixth grade. When he was 14 years old, to help the family economy, he started working in agriculture.

He joined the activities of the Workers' Movement in the struggle for their rights. Subsequently, he was linked to conspiratorial actions against tyrannical governors. His courage, discipline and responsibility were sowing respect among the compatriots of the clandestine struggle, determined to break the apparent tranquility imposed by the dictatorship. Antero forged his political capacity as a member of the Popular Socialist Party. He was persecuted and imprisoned twice, due to his clandestine activities against the regime of Fulgencio Batista.

After the triumph of the Revolution, Antero Leonardo González Cuesta, fulfilled missions as a member of the State Security Bodies. In 1966, he joined the Personal Security Directorate, where he held important responsibilities inside and outside of Cuba. González Cuesta held the position of Organizer in the secretariat of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), in San Antonio de los Baños. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and worked in the ranks of the Communist Party of Cuba.

González Cuesta received several decorations among them, the medals: "XX Anniversary of the Moncada", "Anniversary of the Granma Yacht's Landing, "XXX Anniversary of the FAR" and "Captain San Luis". The distinctions: September 28, by the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR); Aracelio Iglesias, by the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC); and Distinguished Service, by the MININT. He also received honors for his work in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), as well as in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Vietnam and Germany.

Antero Leonardo González Cuesta loved his family, the Revolution and his beloved homeland, which he called: "My Ariguanabo".
