
Delegates from all the provinces of Cuba met in Havana from March 5 to 7 to hold the Third Meeting of Young Journalists. Summoned by the UPEC Youth Club, more than fifty participants dedicated the debates to the management models, ethics, regulations and policies and new actors in the media scenario.
Isidro Betancourt, head of Information of the Cuban Radio, explained the impact of the technologies according to the news. Adonis Subit, editor of the newspaper "Cinco de Septiembre", stated that the main problems of the Cuban press are the production of content and its presentation. Subit made a call to the press leaders to elaborate the media agendas in correspondence with the interests of the population. Yuniel Labacena Romero, journalist of the Juventud Rebelde newspaper and president of the Youth Club, proposed a group of actions aimed at solidifying the work, always keeping in mind the interests of the public and the role played by journalists.
The presentation of the book "Information, communication and change of mentality", by Raúl Garcés Corra, dean of the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana was another proposal. The outstanding professor expressed the duty of journalists to be revolutionaries in order to change and transform spaces gradually, with a strategic vision that allows them to fulfill their social mission, because journalism "is the voice of the people".
The UPEC presidency convoked the X Congress and recognized the quality of the meeting, more strengthened and interactive. The Third Meeting of Young Journalists proclaimed the commitment to continue demonstrating that "the truth needs us".
