In San Antonio de los Baños, different specialists provide services for patients suffering from Diabetes Mellitus. This work is fundamental to guarantee their quality of life based on the study of risk factors and their interaction in the psychosocial environment. According to statistical data from the Municipal Health Directorate, at the end of 2017 in the territory there were more than 3,500 diabetic patients. Type 1 Diabetes (531) - Type 2 Diabetes (80).
Dr. Miladis Gutiérrez Millo, specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine and Master of Science in Infectious Diseases, stressed that at the family doctor's offices specialists work in favor of improving the quality of life of people suffering from diabetes. The specialist pointed out that in the municipality, diabetic patients receive comprehensive care that includes doctors, chiropodists, nurses, nutritionists, and other specialists in education, prevention, diagnosis and treatment, in addition she emphasized the importance of healthy eating habits, as well as the harmful influence of alcohol, tobacco and sedentary lifestyle.
