Internet at home, a reality

In San Antonio de los Baños began the commercialization of the Nauta Hogar service. it is estimated that around 700 consumers will be able to have the service in this first stage.

Ernesto Rodríguez, head of the Commercial and Marketing Department in Etecsa's Territorial Division (DTEA), explained that the Nauta Hogar is composed of an an allowance fee that will be paid only once (10.00 CUC) and the monthly fee that depends on the speed requested in the contract. For the use of the service, the user must have a computer available (PC or Laptop) and is accessed through a nauta account, in case they do not have a nauta account, Etecsa will be enabled for free.

Leydi Alfonso Espinosa, in charge of Communication at the DTEA, added that the Nauta Hogar service (another alternative for Internet users) is a reality in the province of Artemisa since December. In San Antonio de los Baños there are two navigation rooms and three Wifi zones; the ariguanabenses also have the Joven Club de Computación (Young Computing and Electronic Club) as an alternative Internet browsing.

By 2018, the expansion of Wi-Fi zones to communities far from the municipality will take place. Artemisa has 11 3G base stations, which will enable the establishment of the service in mobile phones. It is estimated to install 20 for a higher quality in terms of voice and data transfer.

It is valid to recognize everything that the Cuban Telecommunications Company ETECSA has done in favor of the computerization process of Cuban society, a priority of the Cuban State. 2018 is and will be an intense year before the challenges imposed by the new technologies; therefore, a more qualified staff is required to make Artemisa a consolidated land in terms of communications.
