Security and social assistance are very important issues in San Antonio de los Baños, according to Maidolis Sesé Ruiz, in charge of the Prevention, Assistance and Social Work at the Municipal Labor Directorate. The specialist said that the Social Security System is aimed at protecting workers in the case of illness or accident, total or partial disability, maternity, among others.
Regarding the protection of families, Sesé Ruiz said that social assistance consists of granting monetary benefits to those families who have little to no resources or support, as well as those unable to work, whose income is unable to cover their basic needs. In this way, they guarantee the payment of basic services. Families with critical social situations also receive economic resources, according to the real possibilities of the economy and are included annually in the budget of the municipality's Social Assistance, the specialist added.
At the end of the month of January, a total of 183 families were registered, protected by monetary benefit; in addition to pensioners, combatants, working mothers, physically disabled people, single mothers and the elderly, among others. In this way, the State complies with the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba.
