The Provincial Department of Culture in Artemisa, its municipal counterpart in San Antonio de los Baños and the Eduardo Abela Provincial Visual Arts Center, convene the IX Rubén Suárez Quidiello Landscape Salon. Creators dedicated to the theme of landscape (traditional or contemporary), residents in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana, will be able to compete.
The event is designed to recreate the real and imaginary environment from dissimilar solutions, with the help of authors who venture into the genres of: engraving, painting, photography, drawing and other techniques, which perpetuate the natural and historical heritage of the environment .
Each contestant may submit up to three works, created between January 2017 and April 2018. If assembly is required, the pieces will not exceed the lengths of 100 x 0.70 cm. If the work is assembled there will be no dimensional limits. The works must have on the back: the identification card with the name and surname of the author, permanent identity number, age, private address, telephone, study or work center, and the title of the work.
The works will be delivered at the Eduardo Abela Provincial Visual Arts Center, located at 58th Street No 3710, between 37 and 39, in the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños. For the remaining municipalities of the province of Artemisa, (on April 25 and 26 of the current year). Deadline for submission (from April 1 to April 30, 2018).
The jury integrated by creators and specialists of the Plastic Arts, will award three prizes and as many mentions as it considers. The opinion will be unappealable. The contest will be awarded on May 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Eduardo Abela Provincial Visual Arts Center.
Prior to the inauguration and award ceremony of the IX Salón, on May 5 the Landscape Event will be held, where painters and photographers will draw and capture images of the urban environment of San Antonio de los Baños.
The lens professionals will deliver 10 digital photos to be evaluated by the jury of the event. Three prizes will be awarded, which will be announced on the day of the opening of the IX Landscape Salon Rubén Suárez Quidiello. The winning works will be exhibited for a month at the Eduardo Abela Provincial Visual Arts Center.
The name of the Ariguanabense artist Rubén Suárez Quidiello gives prestige to the Landscape Show that every year reveals images of the panorama of our fields and cities. This creator of San Antonio de los Baños, was born on August 23, 1915. He studied painting at the Academy of San Alejandro where he graduated in 1955. He achieved several awards for his prolific artistic work, among which stand out the National Painting Prize, with the work Plaza del Río and the Special Mention of the Golden Hall of Culture in Havana. He deserved the Distinction for National Culture and was a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and of the International Association of Plastic Arts of UNESCO.
