The test is the key

In San Antonio de los Baños, actions are being developed for the prevention of cervical cancer, according to the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine, Miladis Gutiérrez Millo, Master of Science in Infectious Diseases.

Cervical cancer is the third cause of mortality, according to statistics, preceded by breast and prostate cancer. In the municipality, there are 69 patients. The specialist added that a proven way to prevent this pathology is to have screening tests in order to find pre-cancers before they become invasive, that is, the well-known cytological test. Most cases of invasive cervical cancer are found in women who have not been tested regularly.

In every family doctor's office, the women who must undergo the cytological test are monitored to detect some abnormalities in the cervix. Actually, many women do not understand the need to update this exam, hence the persuasive work of physicians in the face of this social problem, said Gutiérrez Millo.

On the other hand, the doctor explained that there are several measures that women should practice to achieve a healthy lifestyle, such as: avoid smoking, protect themselves during sexual relations and maintain an adequate diet. But the main thing is the periodic check-up and the medical evaluation before any symptom.
