Data supported by scientific studies show that today the climate in Cuba is increasingly hot and extreme. The strong coastal floods increase, the Island is more vulnerable to the occurrence of hurricanes and an increase in sea level is perceived. Meanwhile, these waters are expected to advance 27 centimeters by 2050 and 85 by 2100.
These antecedents alarm the government authorities of the nation, so they take extreme measures to try to minimize the consequences of climate change. For this reason, on April 25, 2017, the Life Task was approved by the Council of Ministers, a state plan inspired by the thought of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro when he expressed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro "... An important biological species is at risk of disappearing due to the rapid and progressive liquidation of its natural living conditions: man ..."
With this plan, 5 strategic actions and 11 tasks are projected, in which a first identification of the prioritized zones and places, their affectations and the actions to be undertaken are presented, which can be enriched during their development and implementation. The Ariguanabo River, a social, cultural and environmental heritage, has been the center of analysis for specialists and others who join the cause of eliminating everything that produces dirt and pollution. The facts that cause its sad regression, we already know them: the hand of man, who does not care about the future of its waters.
In spite of the diagnoses that demonstrate the situation of the Ariguanabo River, the application of measures is urgent, not only to summon the people to a sanitation, but to manage the mechanisms and resources of the waste treatment systems, and above all, to gain environmental culture. The reality is hard. There are those who are still not aware of this situation and continue to aggravate it. Even though the Life Task is a priority of the Cuban State for certain areas, I think it would be useful to apply it in the Ariguanabo River, a wonderful place rich in legends.
For many of us, it is painful what happens to the symbol of the Villa del Humor, but together we have to give it life ... How? -we already know. Comandante Fidel said it, the organizations dedicated to the care of the environment say it and the days say it, because the Life Task is "the political will to act against this complex phenomenon: climate change."
