A challenge for ariguanabense producers

The Agriculture Directorate in San Antonio de los Baños implements a set of actions to increase agricultural production from the optimal use of land and material, natural and human resources.

According to the director of Agriculture Jorge Luis Ortega Martínez, the different productive forms (Agricultural Production Cooperatives, Basic Units of Cooperative Production and Credits and Services Cooperatives) are involved in increasing food production, a growing need of the population. Among the strategies outlined is the redesign of the sowing plans in the first semester, which guarantees the productions of the beginning of the year. An important element is the follow-up to the Cold Campaign, this year with a total of 8850 hectares for sowing, which are satisfactorily met. The presence of vegetables in the markets has increased during the first month of 2018.

He also pointed out that the monitoring and control of food production is vital, since the Agricultural Enterprise directs the entire development program through the productive forms, with the commitment of the peasants. As time progresses, some foods will be sold in the markets, which as a consequence of climatic effects have delayed their harvest.
