The 27th International Book Fair, Cuba 2018, the most important event in the country in terms of literature, takes possession of San Carlos de La Cabaña. Once again the Fortaleza strengthens its weapons, it is filled with books, men and women of all ages, who direct their steps towards the enrichment of knowledge, guided by Martí's slogan ''Reading is growing''. Literature unites humanity, allows to travel through time and recognize history, culture and its labyrinths.
The cultural festival, one of the most important literary events in the Spanish-speaking world, began and will continue to cross the island until May 13, when it concludes in Santiago de Cuba. China is the Guest Country of Honor. China is one of the greatest nations of the world due to its contributions to the development of humanity, and precisely will be among us thanks to literary production.
One of the main events of the International Book Fair, is the sale of several volumes dedicated to Havana's City Historian, Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, to whom the 27th International Book Fair, Cuba 2018 is dedicated, so that we experience the possibility of verifying that Eusebio is a son of his time. That is the title: ''Son of my time'', a book that includes a series of lectures, articles and interviews, which demonstrate the fruitful work of one of the most outstanding intellectuals in Cuba.
This edition, with attractive proposals, advocates the edifying role of reading. That is the challenge, especially among the new generations. Cuba, since the revolutionary triumph, promotes the country's cultural development and gives the book a vital importance because of the potential it can transmit, if we take into account the international context that enhances the global pseudo-culture and denies the national roots and values. Noble purposes guide each edition of the island's largest cultural event, characterized by the promotion of authors and their works within cultural and recreational activities that includes lectures, sales and book presentations, among other actions.
The richness of the event lies in the presentation of more than 600 literary novelties for sale. As is tradition, the National Prizes of History, Edition, Social Sciences and Design will be awarded, as well as the Dinosaur, Calendar, Countercurrent Thinking and New Pines Awards, among other recognitions. This demonstrates the spiritual richness that the Fair will surely provide at the end. Welcome the Fair. Hopefully it will be repeated every year.
