Health services among the main achievements of the Cuban Revolution

The care of pregnant women and their babies before, during and after childbirth, the work of our professionals in hospitals and family doctor's offices, as well as in various health programs, are benefits that contribute to raising the quality of life of Cubans.

The production of vaccines to fight different diseases, the program to fight HIV / AIDS and Tuberculosis and the anti-vector campaign are actions that ensure the well-being and health of the community's members. A new vaccine against pneumococci, developed by the specialists of the Finlay Institute, will be registered under the trademark Quimi-Vio and will reach all Cuban provinces, said the leaders of the research .

An infant mortality of 4.0, the lowest achieved in the country, is another result of the Cuban health system. Cuba is one of the 15 countries in the world recognized by the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) for the application of the three basic policies that guarantee a good brain development of children, according to a recently published report. The report "The first moments are important for each child" reflects that the Island is one of the few nations that combines the pattern of two years of free pre-primary education, paid Maternity Leave  for breastfeeding (during the first six months), and paid Maternity Leave (six additional months).

With a wide use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), high-impact results are currently obtained in biotechnologies such as antiviral therapies against HIV AIDS, and a pediatric pentavalent vaccine. Cuba is the second country in the world that achieves a similar product, only preceded by France. Despite the economic difficulties that affect our nation, our health system is equitable because our professionals also offer their cooperation in other latitudes.
