Today, in Cuba, the "Food Industry Worker Day" is celebrated, an official day in honor of those who work in one of the most important branches of industrial activity, the one related to food.
The election of the date derives from the memory of the constitution of National Workers Union of Food Industry, which took place on January 25, 1971. On this occasion, the most outstanding workers are usually distinguished with the Pedro Marrero Aizpurúa medal, which is given to those who have a worthy career (20 years for women and 25 for men).
Currently, the food industry sector aims to stimulate imports to obtain liquid income, ensure the quality of food and achieve sustainable development based on the needs of the people.
To achieve this, the development program for 2030 also includes the opening in Cuba of a line of milk, three of butter, 50 miniplants of ice cream and 14 of cheese, four lines of ice cream, among others, as expressed by the Minister of Food Industry, María del Carmen Concepción González.
