The Ada Maria Salgado Chess Academy of San Antonio de los Baños hosted the first Rapid Chess Tournament, Blitz Modality. The event, which brought together 16 men from Artemisa, Güira de Melena, Guanajay and San Antonio, was held applying international standards that set a duration of three minutes per game plus two seconds of increase for each play.
Four FIDE Masters (International Chess Federation) gave prestige to the competition, in addition to the presence of international referee Isbel Herrera del Sol and national school champions Ana Bárbara Sierra Cartaya in the 13-15 year category and Aliet Valdés in the Pioneril category. Master FIDE (MF) Michel Coto Mederos won the first place. He was escorted by MF Raynel Amaro Alfonso and the ariguanabense (MF) Wilber Vargas Rodríguez.
The competition was a training for the next National Championship, to be held from February 19 to 26 in Artemisa. The second edition of the Blizt Tournament will be held next month at the same venue.
