In the territory, actions are directed to avoid that the arable soils are affected by some limiting factor of the yield, such as the erosion, the bad drainage, the low fertility or the insufficient retention of the humidity, therefore agro-ecological techniques are applied in the different productive forms.
According to Heidy Fernandez Salazarte, Agroecology, Science and Technical Officer in the Municipal Department of Agriculture, the actions undertaken in each cooperative include the incorporation of organic matter and the use of live barriers to prevent the erosion of the land, the application of natural fertilizers such as earthworm humus, biological means for the control of pests and the use of renewable energies, among others.
To achieve the correct use of these agroecological forms in the soil management and conservation, training and exchanges of experiences have been carried out among producers, together with the Urban Farm, the Agriculture Delegation, the Agricultural Enterprise and the Delegation of Science Technology and Environment (CITMA). These meetings allow materializing healthier productions, without harming the environment.
Likewise, Fernandez Salazarte pointed out that the agroecological management of soils is a primordial task, since the feeding of the population depends on this resource. Hence, the use of polyculture and crop rotations contribute to maintain the biological balance and achieve an optimal use.
