San Antonio de los Baños stands out in the innovation of agricultural projects associated with the research carried out in the different scientific centers of the territory.
Since 2009, ariguanabenses research and implement innovations in vegetables, grains, fruit and tobacco cultivation. Several cooperatives of the municipality are at the forefront through studies presented at conferences and international events with an impact on rice and chickpeas. This panorama shows the potential in the introduction, evaluation and selection of foreign and national products, with the aim of increasing diversity.
The Company of Collection and Benefit of Tobacco Lázaro Peña, located in the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños in the province of Artemisa, applies a group of strategies for the production of the Solanácea in favor of the environment. With this initiative, 60 percent of the exportable layer produced throughout the country is obtained, thanks to the Integral Development Program for the application of science and technology.
To this program correspond the applied researches for the best use and conservation of the soils, the subprogram of application of leveling and subsoiling technique. Likewise, green manure and vermiculture are used for the production of humus, a technique that favors the development of crops in a healthier way for the environment.
The company works for the total elimination of methyl bromide in seedbeds and implements the technology of root ball, which guarantees the necessary substrates for the plants and, consequently, 95% survival and quality postures are obtained.
