The eighth edition of the First Category Baseball Provincial Series in Artemisa began last Saturday with an opening ceremony at the Julio Pérez Stadium in San Antonio de los Baños.
The tournament consists of two groups, with six teams each. Group A is made up of San Antonio de los Baños, Caimito, San Cristóbal, Candelaria, Mariel and the University. In Group B, the teams of Artemisa, Alquízar, Bauta, Bahía Honda, Güira de Melena and Guanajay will compete for the Play Off ticket.
The first two of each section qualify for a semi-final crusade of three to win two, the winners will discuss in title, in the same number of matches. As reported by the Provincial Baseball Commission, the games suspended for any reason will be held on Thursdays in the corresponding park.
On Saturday, the teams of San Antonio de los Baños, San Cristóbal and Bauta won in the double schedule of seven innings to their rivals, while Alquízar played with Artemisa and Güira de Melena with Bahía Honda, while Mariel did not travel to Caimito due to transportation problems.
The markers of the Ariguanabo provincial champions were (10x0) (6x0) versus Candelaria, while San Cristóbal won the university students, (2x1) and Bauta was better than Guanajay, (3x0) and (5x2). Bahia Honda defeated Güira de Melena (4x3) in the first match and at the second hour, Güira's team retaliated and returned the defeat by winning (5x4). Something similar happened with Alquízar versus Artemisa. Alquízar won (4x0) and then Artemisa (5x4).
On Sunday San Cristóbal beat the university students (4x0), while Candelaria defeated San Antonio (10x4), Mariel beat Caimito (10x9) and Bahia Honda to Güira de Melena (14x7). They could not play because of transport problems, Bauta versus Guanajay, in Severino Méndez and Artemisa against Alquízar in Luis Campos.
Next weekend San Cristóbal will travel to Candelaria, San Antonio will go to Mariel and Caimito will face those of the University. In the other group, Artemisa will go to Bauta, Güira de Melena will travel to Alquízar and Guanajay will visit Bahía Honda.
After these results the table of positions is as follows:
