At the end of 2017, the Tobacco Research Institute had more than 70 projects, 22 of them with scientific results, 2 awards from the Ministry of the Sugar Industry, and a CITMA Award by the researcher Liset Monzón, titled Variety strategy to face the chemical degradation of soils in the Party tobacco zone, as well as five Forjadores del Futuro stamps.

On January 15, 1960, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, during the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Speleological Society of Cuba, gave a historic speech where he outlined the bases of the policy of human formation and professional and scientific development of the Revolution . In that speech he said: "The future of our country must necessarily be a future of men of science, a future of men of thought". For that reason, this date has been chosen to celebrate, every year, the Cuban Science Day, exhibiting the most important achievements of science in general.

The Tobacco Research Institute will carry out a softball game at the institutional level, in which researchers from the Experimental Station of Cabaiguán, San Juan and Ariguanabo will participate.
