The Tobacco Research Institute works according to the interests of the producers, maintaining the quality that distinguishes Cuban tobacco, especially to improve the productive results in San Antonio de los Baños.
According to Amaury Borges Miranda, scientific director of the entity, during 2017, 15 scientific results and 1 economic achievement were obtained; 2 direct introductions of the investigations were put into practice. These results are significant because they have positive impacts on economic savings and production.
Referring to these elements, the director pointed out that the economic achievement obtained consists of mineral fertilization for the cultivation of tobacco by a fungus that is allied with the plant root. This allows a greater absorption of nutrients and therefore an efficient mineral nutrition.
Regarding direct introductions, Borges Miranda pointed out that studies on the dynamics of humidity were carried out. The results obtained defined the tolerable decrease in the production process of the medium tobacco with a view to the purchase of raw tobacco. In addition, the variety of black tobacco called ''Corojo 2012'' was obtained.
