Safe sex, more than an option, is everyone's duty. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have permanent negative health effects. In San Antonio de los Baños different actions are developed to prevent them.
According to the specialist in Health Promotion and Education, Crucelda Estrada Guerra, STIs constitute a public health problem worldwide, hence the need to prepare different population groups, especially adolescents and young adults. In educational and labor centers of the territory, workshops and debates on the consequences of acquiring an infection and the advantages of safe sex are held, the specialist pointed out.
Estrada Guerra also said that educational talks will be held with high school and pre-university students that will address issues such as teenage pregnancy, condom use in sexual intercourse, contraceptive methods and the use of emerging contraceptive pills. In addition, she made a call to develop a sexual culture, to carry out regular tests for STIs and to avoid drug and alcohol use.
