Radio Ariguanabo first transmission was on October 8, 1971, thanks to the effort of a group of comrades led by Rigoberto Blanco, Domingo García and Carmelo de Armas. Its first location was in the headquarters of the Municipal Party, at 41 Avenue in San Antonio de los Baños; later it was transferred to the workshops of the Company of Means of Propaganda in the same avenue.
It had a plant, an audio console, two domestic dishes adapted to the work of the station, a tape recorder and a Phillips microphone. The programming of Radio Ariguanabo was mainly musical, later it was enriched with some productions, mainly during commemoration of historical dates and political, cultural and sport activities of the region.
Over the years
In 1974 Radio Ariguanabo became part of the Cuban Radio and Television Institute (ICRT). The following year began the construction of the new plant. For this reason it was removed from the air in the month of July until November that returned in an experimental way, since with the new equipment and the frequency of 1200 Kilohertz, in a new premises and in improvised cabins. In September 1978 the station was inaugurated in a renovated building with the necessary technical conditions and equipment.
Nowadays
The work of Radio Ariguanabo is aimed at informing about the local and provincial events, from Cuba and the rest of the world. The Integrated Drafting Department has journalists and editors who are responsible for getting all the information, as well as processing the news for the daily bulletins.
The programming is aimed at young people, children, women, peasants, workers and cederistas; combining music with interviews, cultural themes, sports, among others. In these 46 years, our radio station has achieved countless achievements and recognitions, which demonstrate the quality and integrated work of journalists, editors, announcers, consultants and program directors.
