The Tobacco Research Institute of San Antonio de los Baños provides technological services to the Tobacco Enterprise of the municipality, with the aim of providing the scientific and technical bases for the development of the productive chain.
According to the director of the institution, Anayansi Cuellar González, among the benefits associated with the tobacco industry are the chemical analysis of soils, substrates and water, the diagnosis of nutrition and crops, the formation of micro elements. Other elements are the minimum requirements for chlorophyll and the certification of areas for seeds, production and sales. In addition, the finished product is analyzed in cigarettes and tobaccos.
The official added that the implementation of the management system such as quality, environment and innovation is advised by researchers and specialists. All these services follow fundamental lines such as the improvement and conservation of the soil, definition of the planting of commercial varieties, the study of crop physiology and the adverse effects of climate change on production.
