The Ariguanabenses remember and pay homage to Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (Che) and Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán, two commanders of the Cuban national liberation war, who shared the month of their physical disappearance and the ideal of fighting for Cuba's freedom. Members of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution (ACRC) in San Antonio de los Baños will pay tribute, from October 8 to 28, to Che and Camilo, pillars of the armed movement in the Sierra Maestra to overthrow the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista.
Fernando Pérez Rodríguez, Lieutenant Colonel of the Reserve and president of the ACRC in San Antonio de los Baños, explained that various activities will be carried out, including the opening ceremony of Camilo-Che Day, visits to the municipal museum José Rafael Lauzán and a photographic exhibition with images of Che and Camilo, in the headquarters of the ACRC Municipal Directorate. On October 20, Cuban Culture Day, more than seventy combatants of the town, participants in the struggle of the Escambray and other regions of Cuba, will be awarded the Commemorative Medal ''60th Anniversary of the Revolutionary Armed Forces''. On October 28, they will attend the pilgrimage to the Ariguanabo River.
With the task of promoting the rescue of historical memory, the members of the ACRC in San Antonio de los Baños perpetuate the example of Camilo and Che, the vanguard of the generation that bequeathed a free and sovereign Cuba.
