Medical care is an objective of the Public Health System. It is a set of comprehensive, preventive-curative and rehabilitation actions. The activities of the basic health team are organized both in consultations and visits (home admission, medical care, consultations and other activities).
According to Dr. Gisela Pimentel Estrada, deputy director of Medical Assistance at this health institution, at the Polyclinic No 2 Felipe Ismael Rodríguez in San Antonio de los Baños, clinical laboratory and X-ray services are provided, as well as specialized consultations: dermatology, physiatry and orthopedics.
There are 25 family doctor's offices associated with the polyclinic. Nine are located in rural areas and the rest in the urban area. There, comprehensive care services are provided with emphasis on the Maternal and Child Program, arbovirosis and care for chronic noncommunicable diseases.
Doctors use the clinical method based on physical examination as the main tool of work: listening, observing, thinking and reasoning are the fundamental actions. According to the official, they have more than 20 doctors who provide primary health care, and a group of specialists including nurses, pediatricians, specialists in Internal Medicine, obstetricians, psychologists and social workers.
Gisela Pimentel Estrada highlighted the importance of the classification of people for the dynamic, organized and continuous evaluation of their health status. It contains the registry, diagnosis and follow-up of patients.
