Ariguanabense women are involved in the economic changes developed in the country. In the ''Escogida Tabacalera H-10-B'', belonging to the Tobacco Enterprise Lázaro Peña of San Antonio de los Baños, a group of women give their contribution to this process of transformations. The specialist in Human Resources of this labor center, Dailín Llanes Alfonso, refers to the subject.
What is your position in the Tobacco Enterprise and what are your functions?
I am a specialist in Human Resources. My role is to control the management of human capital, the treatment of labor discipline, labor records, wage treatment, social security and the application of payment systems.
What is the social objective of the entity?
The entity is a productive unit. Its purpose is to benefit the tobacco leaves and then export them. In addition, tobacco is used for domestic consumption.
How many workers does the entity have?
131 workers. 87 women work primarily as leaf openers and classifiers.
What are the contributions made by workers, according to the legislation in force for tobacco production?
The workers contribute 5 percent when there is an excess of 500 pesos in the salary earned. Workers contribute three per cent of the currency to the Maternal and Child Program and 12.5 per cent of the labor force to social security.
How does the entity contribute to local development?
One percent of sales goes to local development.
What is the payment system applied to workers?
The payment system is in correspondence with the productivity of each worker, taking into account the economic indicators established by the company. Another type of payment is according to economic efficiency.
How is the work of women organized in the productive entity?
The entity is cyclical. The benefit of the tobacco leaf lasts from 8 to 10 months. After that, the workers have vacations and later they are inserted to the work in the agriculture where they benefit the tobacco of 13 particular producers of the municipality.
Tell me about the production plan.
We have a collection plan of 118 tons. The plan is at 60 percent of compliance.
What importance do you attach to the work of women for the development of the economy?
Women play an important role in the economy, especially in our institution that brings monetary benefits to the country, since Cuban tobacco has great prestige throughout the world. The workers give their greatest effort to this task.
